Block Traffic by Country using CSF Firewall

This post describes how to Block Traffic by Country using CSF Firewall. CSF (Config Server Firewall) is a free and advanced firewall available for most Linux distributions. It provides a GUI for cPanel, DirectAdmin and Webmin.

You can install CSF on cPanel or any Linux system using this tutorial. Once it is installed, open up the firewall configuration file and search for the derivative CC_DENY to block the traffic by the country code.

I am using VIM editor to edit the firewall configuration.

vim /etc/csf/csf.conf

Use the CC_DENY field to block the traffic by the country code. Also, If you use the CC_ALLOW field, it will open all ports for the IP address range of whitelisted country. So, please configure the CC_ALLOW directive before thinking twice. Multiple coutries can be added to this field by comma seperated with no spaces between them. Check the attached screenshot.

Once you saved the configuration, restart the firewall to make the changes in effect.

csf -r

Use the following country codes in CC_DENY or CC_ALLOW field to block or allow the traffic to certain countries.
